Break Through in Days, Not Months – Deep, Focused Therapy for Relationship Conflict, Disconnection and Estrangement.

Private 2–3 day therapy intensives designed for couples and families to target relationship conflict that seems to be ongoing and sometimes feels hopeless. You don’t need fixing. You need focused space to let go of what’s been holding you back.

Something has to change.

I need time to get underneath the problem—not just talk about what happened this week.Maybe you've tried traditional therapy and left feeling hopeless. Maybe you've tried to handle it on your own. Maybe you've become good at functioning, even while the relationship life continues to hurt. Trying to ignore the fear, anger and sadness by pushing it away or ignoring it.An intensive gives you the time and space to step away from everyday distractions and focus on what matters. Rather than squeezing difficult conversations into a 50-minute session, we slow things down and work together more deeply. You don't have to have everything figured out before you come. You don't have to know exactly what to say.You just need to be willing to take the next step. You’re not broken. You’ve just been surviving for a long time. And survival has a cost.

Burnout & ExhaustionI can't keep doing this. What if this doesn't get better?

StuckWe've talked about this a hundred times, but nothing changes.

Repeating PatternsOld habits, reactions, or defenses that keep showing up no matter how much you know better.

Focused. Transformative. Tailored to You.

An intensive gives you the time, privacy, and focused attention to step out of everyday life and work on what really matters. In our time together, we slow things down enough to understand what's happening beneath the surface—not just the latest argument, behavior, or crisis. We look at the patterns that keep you stuck, create space for honest conversations, and begin developing new ways of responding. You may not leave with every problem solved. Real change takes time. But you can leave with something just as important: greater clarity, a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, meaningful conversations that may have been avoided, and a clear path forward. The goal isn't simply to feel better for a day. It's to begin creating something different.Because these sessions are customized to your situation, various options are available.

  • Some examples of relationship issues perfect for custom intensives.

  • Couples, When You’re Stuck in Conflict—or Feeling Far ApartYou may still love each other, but somehow you’ve lost your way back to one another. Conversations that once felt simple can quickly become arguments. One of you may pursue the conversation, wanting answers, reassurance, or connection, while the other pulls away, shuts down, or simply doesn’t know what to say. Over time, you may find yourselves having the same argument again and again without actually resolving anything. Sometimes there isn’t much arguing at all. Instead, there is silence, distance, separate routines, less affection, and a growing sense that you are more like roommates than partners. You may both feel misunderstood. One partner may think, “I can never do enough.” The other may be thinking, “I don’t matter to you.” Beneath the anger, criticism, defensiveness, or withdrawal are often hurt, fear, loneliness, disappointment, and a longing to feel valued again. Sometimes the first step toward finding each other again is having enough time and safety to finally be heard.

  • Couples - When Trust Has Been Broken. Betrayal can change the way you experience your relationship—and sometimes the way you experience yourself. Betrayal can include various relationship impacting behaviors including gambling, porn, affairs, and/or lying to their partner. You may be asking questions you never imagined you would have to ask: How could this happen? What else don't I know? Can I ever trust you again? Was any of our relationship real? How do we move forward from this? For the partner who has been betrayed, there may be anger, grief, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, emotional swings, or a desperate need for answers and reassurance. You may want closeness one moment and distance the next. The partner who broke the trust may also be struggling—with guilt, shame, fear of losing the relationship, or uncertainty about how to repair the damage. You may want to explain what happened or reassure your partner but find that your words aren't enough. And both of you may feel trapped in the same painful cycle. When trust has been broken, healing begins with having a safe place to face what happened—and what comes next.

  • Estrangement - When Your Relationship With Your Adult Child Has Become Estranged. There is a particular kind of pain that comes when you can no longer reach your adult child. Sometimes even losing access to your grandchildren. You may find yourself replaying conversations, wondering what went wrong, and asking questions you don't know how to answer: What happened between us? What did I do that hurt them? Why won't they talk to me? Should I reach out—or give them space? Is there anything I can do to repair our relationship? You may feel grief, anger, guilt, confusion, or profound loneliness. Holidays, birthdays, family gatherings, and milestones can make the distance feel even more painful. You may also find yourself defending your actions while simultaneously wondering whether there are things you need to understand differently. You may not be able to control whether your child reconnects. But you can begin to understand your part, heal your own wounds, and decide how you want to show up if the door to connection opens again.

  • Blended Family Life May Be Difficult. You love your partner, but sometimes it feels like your family is pulling you in different directions. Blended families can bring tremendous joy—and also complicated emotions. Different parenting styles, expectations, household rules, relationships with former partners, and loyalties to children can create tension that is difficult to resolve. You may find yourself thinking: Why does this always become an argument? Why do I feel like an outsider in my own family? Why does my partner take their child's side? How much authority should I have with my stepchildren? Why are we fighting about the children instead of talking about us? How do we create one family without asking anyone to give up the family they already have? Sometimes the conflict isn't really about the homework, the curfew, the money, or the household rules. It may be about belonging, loyalty, trust, boundaries, and feeling valued. One parent may feel protective of their children. A stepparent may feel disrespected or excluded. A child may worry that accepting a stepparent means betraying their other parent. A biological parent may feel caught between their partner and their child. Everyone may be trying to protect an important relationship—and yet the family becomes increasingly divided. An intensive provides the time and structure to slow these patterns down and understand what is happening beneath the conflict. The goal isn't to choose sides. It's to help your family move from competing loyalties and recurring conflict toward greater understanding, clearer boundaries, and a stronger sense of connection.

Your Transformation Journey

How Intensives Work

When you’re used to leading, you need a process that’s structured, efficient, and trustworthy. Each intensive follows a clear framework designed to help you work deeply without getting lost — so every hour moves you toward relief, clarity, and renewed strength.

Step 1

Pre-Intensive Assessment

You’ll complete a focused pre-assessment and a one-on-one call to clarify your goals. Together, we define what’s most important to address and create a roadmap that fits your specific history and pace.

Step 2

2–3 Day Private Intensive

Across two to three full days, you’ll step out of the noise of daily life and into a dedicated environment for transformation. Using trauma-informed, evidence-based methods, we’ll uncover and release long-held emotional patterns impacting your relationship.

Step 3

Integration & Follow-Up

You’ll leave with a personalized plan of action — practical tools, follow-up sessions, and resources to help you sustain the changes you’ve made and stay grounded as you return to your daily life.

The structure keeps you safe. The pace helps you heal. The outcome is freedom that lasts.

Real People. Real Change.

Hi, I'm Dr. Dan, LP, LPC.

My role is to meet you where you are—with compassion, honesty, and without judgment—and help you understand what is happening beneath the surface. I work with individuals and couples who are ready for more than simply managing symptoms. Through intensive therapy, we create focused time and space to slow down, go deeper, and address the patterns that keep you feeling stuck. My approach is integrative and personalized. I draw from evidence-based approaches including trauma-focused therapies, attachment-based work, Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, EMDR, Brainspotting, DBT, and somatic approaches. I don’t believe therapy should be one-size-fits-all. Together, we determine what you need and what approaches will best support meaningful change.I bring more than 35 years of experience in the mental health field, along with more than 20 years as a college professor and counselor educator. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with individuals, couples, professionals, and students across a wide range of challenges and life circumstances. These experiences have taught me that meaningful change often begins when people finally feel seen, understood, and safe enough to be honest. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. You simply need to be willing to take the next step. I’ll meet you there and walk alongside you.

How is a retreat different from traditional weekly therapy
Traditional therapy provides an important opportunity to meet regularly and work toward change over time. A custom creates something different: protected time and space to concentrate on the issues that matter most.
Instead of stopping after 50 minutes and returning to everyday demands, an intensive allows us to slow down, stay with important conversations, recognize patterns, and work toward meaningful next steps. It is encouraged that in order to allow you time to process the intensive material, reconnect with yourself or partner, or enjoy an adventure, turn your custom intensive into a retreat by staying at one of the area resorts.Discount rates are available the “Lodge” in Geneva National. Found at www.destinationgn.com/lodge

How long is a custom intensive
Intensives are customized to your situation. Depending on your goals and in consult with Dr. Dan, a custom may be designed as a two-day, or multi-day experience.
The length is determined during the planning process rather than by a one-size-fits-all program.

What happens during a custom intensive
We begin by identifying what you want to accomplish and then use the time intentionally.
A custom is a transformative experience which may include:
• Focused individual, couple or family therapy
• Exploring patterns and underlying concerns
• Processing difficult emotions
• Improving communication
• Identifying relationship and attachment patterns
• Trauma-focused work when appropriate
• Developing practical strategies and new responses
• Guided reflection and exercises
• Planning for continued change after the intensive
There will also be opportunities to pause, reflect, and regulate rather than spending every minute in conversation.

Can I engage in an intensive if I am in traditional weekly therapy with a counselor
Yes. Dr. Dan will work with your traditional therapist to design an experience that will meet your needs quicker and at a deeper level. You will then return to your traditional therapist who will receive a discharge plan to help you keep the gains going.
